About University Kuala Lumpur Royal College Medicine of Perak

University Kuala Lumpur Royal College Medicine of Perak (UniKL RCMP) became part of University Kuala Lumpur in 2006 as its medical faculty with an objective to provide affordable medical education, as well as to provide facilities for continuing professional development for medical practitioners.

UniKL RCMP is strategically located in the heart of Ipoh City, capital city of Perak and the third largest city in Malaysia. Situated on a six acre site UniKL RCMP distinctive Moorish architecture building is within the vibrant and well planned township of Greentown where shopping malls, restaurants, food courts, clinics, banks and tourists attractions are all within easy reach.

The college is equipped with lecture theaters, multi purposes hall, clinical skills laboratory, pathology museum, library, computer laboratories, science laboratories, prayer rooms, mini kiosk and a dedicated anatomy building. The conducive environment provided by the college induces the students to learn better.

By 2009, the college has opened its door to more than 2000 local and foreign students attending various courses in allied health sciences as well as medical education. The students are registered in Bachelor in Medicine and Bachelor in Surgery (MBBS), Diploma in Nursing, Diploma in Pharmacy and Diploma in Medical Imaging (Radiography). The college is commencing with the Bachelor in Nursing organized for working nurses in January 2010. The presence of international students reflects the trust gained by UniKL RCMP. RCMP will continue to offer quality allied health sciences programme to fulfill the market needs.

As in 2010, the campus set a target of establishing a Women Health and Specialist Centre to provide services to the community in Ipoh.

In anticipation of the growing number of students, RCMP is coming up with a 10-storey building estimated RM79 million. It is expected to be completed in 2011, doubling the floor space of the current Moorish architecture building. The new building will house hostels for 800 students, lecture halls, staff offices, cafeteria, clinics, library and laboratories.

The success of the college lies in its dedicated and well qualified staff, which has wealth of experience in the field of managerial, medicine and allied health sciences. In its early operation in 1999, the college started with 7 staff members but today the number multiplies and increased tremendously to more than 215 staff members.

As an institution registered with Malaysia Medical Council (MMC), UniKL RCMP has established agreements with Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) which enable the college to gain access to governmental hospitals in Perak, and other states in Malaysia.

With this and the collaboration with other private healthcare institutions, UniKL RCMP potentially offers students greater exposure to a variety of patients and a wide spectrum of diseases.

At present, the college is accommodating Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, Sg Siput Hospital, Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta, Taiping Hospital, Sri Manjung Hospital, Batu Gajah Hospital and all community Polyclinics in the State of Perak, has become the teaching centre for the college. The Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, on the other hand, provides excellent clinical teaching resources with the presence of well-qualified consultants and medical personnel which will enhance the student’s learning experience. In ensuring that the courses are relevant to the health industry, UniKL RCMP is working closely with the healthcare authorities and service providers in developing its curriculum.

As for the private hospitals, we are proud to work hand in hand with a handful of reputable private hospitals which among them are KPJ, Subang Jaya Medical Centre, Sunway Medical Centre, Loi Guan Lai Hospital, Colombia Hospital and Pantai Medical Hospital.

To fulfill our vision and mission as a global player in the near future, recent development has been even more ambitious. A Memorandum of Understanding had been established between UniKL RCMP and Vinayaka Mission University to set up a Teaching Hospital in India for RCMP medicine students to undergo their clinical training with potentially vast clinical exposure. The college aims to become one of the best private medical higher institutions in Malaysia as well as the region.
